Blue Elephant Restaurant, Bangkok

Unfortunately... it was fully booked

The original Blue Elephant restaurant was opened in 1980- nearly 32 years ago- in Brussels, Belgium by Thai national Khun Nooror Somany Steppe and her Belgian husband, Mr. Karl Steppe. With the passion of Khun Nooror’s cooking clearly evident, the authentic Thai Royal cuisine was  immediately appreciated by a discerning European clientele. The popularity of the first restaurant led to the opening of a second restaurant in London in 1986, and subsequent openings in Paris and Copenhagen laid the foundations for further openings over the years throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia- with a current total of 12 restaurants in the group.

The concept behind Blue Elephant is to serve the finest quality Royal Thai cuisine, whilst also showcasing the heritage of  Thai culture to a global audience. All the Blue Elephant restaurants are decorated in a distinctive Thai style featuring authentic Thai handicrafts and artwork. Substantial proportions of the menu ingredients are sourced in Thailand and flown fresh several times weekly to all the restaurant locations.

International success and acclaim ultimately led Khun Nooror to return to her Thai homeland in 2002, and after securing and restoring the historic Thai-Chine building in central Bangkok, the Blue Elephant Cooking School & Restaurant was opened. Ten years later, the Bangkok restaurant continues to delight guests with the elegant ambiance of the historic building and the finest quality Royal Thai cuisine created under the “hands-on” personal supervision of Chef Nooror. And the added element of the Cooking School has been a huge success, with daily classes introducing participants into the intricacies of  the preparation and cooking of Royal Thai cuisine.

Somboon Seafood, Potchana, Surawong, Bangkok

2014: Somboon Seafood is proudly celebrating its 45th anniversary with the launching of two new branches: “Central Embassy” and “Siam Square One”. The new outlets are located in the middle of the city’s prime entertaining and commercial districts and easily accessible by BTS skytrain.
45 Years of Somboon Seafood, “The Originator of Famous Fried Curry Crab”

This is the 1st trip by the family to Somboon. It was my 2nd time and I am determined to bring them here.

When we arrived, everyone were in awe as all 4 floors of the restaurant was full to the brink. We manage to secure a table at the top floor.... next to the toilet :)

Platinum Fashion Mall , Bangkok

the location:

Ratchathewi, จังหวัด กรุงเทพมหานคร Thailand
+66 2 121 8000

from: http://www.bangkok.com/shopping-mall/platinum.htm

Platinum Fashion Mall is like an indoor version of the Chatuchak Weekend Market. It specializes in wholesale fashion clothing and accessories, with four floors of shopping space, packed with some 1,300 shops. Here, haggling is part of the fun, and you’ll save more buying in larger quantities.

Platinum Fashion Mall location is smack in the centre of Pratunam, a 10-minute walk from either Ratchathewi or Chidlom BTS Skytrain, so it is easily accessible when compared to other clothing bazaars of the same scale. Plus, it’s air conditioned and comes complete with a large food court as well as cafés and fast food chains.

it’s a wholesale shopping mall filled with small outlets, selling mostly women’s fashion and accessories. Each floor of Platinum Fashion Mall is named after famous shopping districts around the world, namely Orchard, Nathan, Ginza, Soho, Oxford and Camden. Roughly, the four floors of retail shopping space are dedicated to men’s and women’s clothing, leathers, shoes and fashion accessories.

The range of styles and what’s available is more than impressive. Find everything from children’s wear, adolescent clothing, jeans, evening dresses, underwear and oversized clothing to wigs, belts, shoes, handbags, hats and cosmetics. Specialty shops are interesting too, with imported fashion from Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, China, India, as well as niche fashion, such as oversized clothes, elderly lady’s fashion, chiffon dresses, cowboy clothes, costumes, and more.

Basically, you can find anything to embellish yourself with from head to toe, so it’s a good idea to do some mixing and matching in your head as you browse along. And don’t hesitate to buy when you see something that you like or you may not find it again
