Verdict:
The Sony Alpha 65 features the same sensor that is used in
the A77 and also the NEX-7. The big difference is that the A65 is far cheaper
with both other models costing over £1,000. While the number of megapixels
needs to be balanced with other aspects of the camera’s features and
performance, there can be little argument that the resolution of the A65 gives
it a major selling point over its rivals.
Whether you actually need 24 million pixels is debatable,
but the Sony has them if your answer is yes. The A65’s not a one-trick pony
either, as its autofocus and metering systems are excellent and its range of
features should meet the needs of all but the most demanding amateur
photographers and videographers. The electronic finder is close to a
revelation, too. Its build quality and high ISO performance may not match that
of many of its rivals, but in most other regards, the A65 delivers a
class-leading performance.
