One will find zam-zam water transported from Makkah all around the Masjid Nabawi.
It is a miraculously-generated
source of water, which began thousands of years ago when Abraham's
(Ibrāhīm) infant son Ishmael (ʼIsmāʻīl) was thirsty and kept crying for water and was kicking at
the ground when water gushed out (another story was that an angel use its wings to make a great big hole when Ismail was crying). Millions of pilgrims visit the well each year
while performing the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimages, in order to drink its water.
